A more plausible story has Mitch Melnick taking over
the CHOM morning show. I'd love to see this one pan out.
Melnick's considerable talents are utterly wasted in the
afternoon-drive slot at CIQC. Fully aware that at 5 p.m.
more Montrealers are having extramarital sex than listening
to his show, Melnick has not-so-quietly yearned for a larger
spotlight.
A cum laude graduate of the Ted Blackman College of
Sports and Music Knowledge, Melnick would kick butt in a
fresh CHOM morning format that combined hard rock and
hip talk. Where else on Montreal's woeful radio dial would
you hear the 30th anniversary all-star version of My Back
Pages at 7:40 in the morning - bracketed by a twangy
Lucinda Williams tune and a Bill Lee phone-in?
And after hiring Melnick, CHOM can create something
really special in the morning slot by raiding Mix 96 for Ted
Bird, whose deserves a better partner than Andre Maisonneuve.
